Dr. Catherine Teh, co-chairperson , NKTI Liver Transplant Program, guested in GMA 7 News to Go Program and discussed liver disease in depth. This interview was brought about by the approval of PCSO in providing financial assistance to indigent patients who will undergo liver transplant.
She discussed who needs liver transplant and shared that 1 out of 8 Filipinos has contracted hepatitis B. This can be contracted through blood transfusion, sexual transmission, maternal via child birth. Liver cirrhosis, transplantation and treatments were also discussed and biliary atresia, a rare, life-threatening disease that damages the liver in children.
